Can I disconnect front assembly while the phone is turned on?

Hi there,

I have recently replaced the back housing and front panel assembly for my 3Gs iphone. The USB device is not recognized in windows, and the phone hangs on the boot screen, with an eternal spinning load sign.

I cant do a hard reset, I figure this is because one of the button's is not connected properly.

Can I remove the 3 connectors and remove the screen while the phone is on, or do I have to wait til it goes flat?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

You can just remove the 3 connectors, it doesn't cause any harm.

Also, have you checked to see if the dock connector is plugged in properly?

No I haven't.

Ok, try checking that.

Alright I'm trying now...

Hey it worked.

You are a legend.

I know.

thing is you're not always this lucky, you can damage the backlight or LCD in this way (I've done it..lesson learned) so although it isn't the best practice to leave a phone on to disconnect the display, it can be done. The best option is to slide to power off (hold power button until prompt appears) or allow to go flat before attempting repairs.

Exactly what Polly said, you were lucky. A lot of people damage their display/phone doing it this way. WSOD is another issue you'd see.
