My TV turns on for 8sec and then off. No backlight, no image, no sound

Block Image

Hello,

If i plug the TV power cable in 2 sec back light is on and the logo Bravia appears on the screen for about 6sec and then back light goes off, no image, no sound. Power button switches green LED on and off, the SONY front panel logo as well. The remote control switches green LED on and off. If I unplug the TV in stage off and then plug it again, and try to power on, I can’t see any logo and back light is off as well. All voltages are fine. No errors. If I unplug any connection cable to the backlight boards, the blinking red LED appears.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Hi @dankolov ,

Just verifying that you tried the USB port on the back of the TV?

Also here’s a link to the service manual for the TV.

You can use it online but it is a bit slow but it has schematics etc which may help.

Use the index to find the page that you want and then scroll down to the bottom and type the page number in the box and click Go to get to the page

I tried both . No 5V on them and doesn't read anything. I found the firmware, but...no chance. For now, I am looking for a mainboard, but it is difficult even to find the right one. I understood that the color band on the printed label is important as well.

@dankolov “No backlight, no image, no sound” since you measured all the voltages and found them to be “fine” then you will have an issue with either the main board or the T-con board. This “ If I unplug any connection cable to the backlight boards, the blinking red LED appears” is actually what it is supposed to do.

Hi @dankolov ,

I'm wondering if you have a firmware problem, as the TV logo works but then nothing after that.

Having the logo proves that the fundamentals are OK, power and screen and the startup is OK, it just that it fails after that.

I'm with @oldturkey03 in that I think it's a mainboard problem , but that's where the firmware is as well. Since it doesn't turn on far enough to check what version firmware is installed trying to reload the firmware may not work if yours is a later version (and that I have linked the correct page).

If you're considering this please double check the model number and do your own search for "(insert model number) firmware" to make sure that you have the correct firmware as installing the wrong firmware can "brick" the TV.

Double check the Applicable models list to make sure that your model is listed

Hi @dankolov ,

Any feedback on what fixed the problem would be appreciated as it improves the knowledge "store", especially mine.

Cheers ;-)

I mentioned about unplugging backlights cables just to prove that the error is detected. Otherwise no error code, and one thing I didn't mention- when stops I get 2V on pin "inv-err" on PSU board. The signal comes from main board, and probably the problem is there or there is a signal from inverters that tells to the main board there is a problem. if I unplug and plug the power cable in stage 'off' (green LED off) this signal is present from first moment and noting to do after. Somehow the signal is 0V between 2nd sec and 8th sec (unplug and plug power cord in stage 'on' green LED) when the logo appears. The logo even slowly fades before gone completely- graphic motion.

On each inverter board is a current detecting resistor- no excessive current- 0.4V on each.

@dankolov post some pictures of your boards etc. so the we can see what you see. Adding images to an existing question

Hi @dankolov ,

Found a to a service manual for the TV (unfortunately you have to subscribe to download but you can view it online except it is slow).

Try and see if you can get into the Diagnostic mode if the Tv stays on long enough that is and check if it shows anything amiss.
