Is this apple pcie ssd blade compatible with my iMac 27 late 2013 i7?

Hello!

I have an 27” iMac late 2013 with i7, 128GB PCIe Apple SSD + 3TB HDD.

I want to replace the PCIe SSD with same original Apple blade drive.

Is the Samsung MZ-JPV5120/0a4 compatible with my system?

Was looking for information on different websites, some say yes, some - not. I’m a little bit confused, because two different certified apple services in my country doesn’t even know about this kind of models (or they simply don’t want to help me).

Anyway, I’m looking for 512GB PCIe SSD and want to replace it with an original one from Apple in my machine. Maybe someone can help me?

Here’s a good reference on the different Apple blade SSD’s The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs

Your system only has a PCIe 2.0 x2 interface. You will need this drive Samsung MZ-JPU512T

The Samsung MZ-JPV5120 is a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. While it will work in your system it will only be running in compatibility mode (PCIe 2.0 and only two lanes).

Thank you so much for your answer! So there is no difference in JPV5120 and JPU5120 for me? Or working in compatibility mode will cause errors?

If you haven't bought it I wold stick with the correct drive.

I know of people using it and being disappointed as they thought they could get better performance. I've not installed it so I personally don't know.

Keep in mind the correct SSD is a bit cheaper!

I have some JPV5120 to choose. They are more healthy and price is the same in my country comparing with JPU version. I know that performance will be the same as my original ssd. Just need to replace because it is dying. Thank you again for your help! You saved my day!

@jurius - Let us know how it goes! Make sure you follow the iMac Intel 27" EMC 2639 Blade SSD Replacement guide and be very careful pulling the display off, make sure you use the special pizza cuter wheel and get the replacement adhesive strips (I would even recommend getting two sets just in case)

Also use reagent quality isopropyl alcohol 85% or better to clean the surfaces of any traces of the old tape.

Good Luck!

@danj the replacement went well and my imac detected both Samsung MZ-JPU512T and Wd Red Pro (WD4003FFBX) disks. I combined them into fusion drive. But after replacement i have constant fan speed more than 2000 rpm but temperature of all components is pretty normal for idle mode. I can't tell why and still finding a solution. NVRAM and SMC reset didn't help
