16 Gb ram works fine but some times I got graphics problems.

Hi everyone!

I have recently upgraded my macbook pro to 16 GB of ram with the model KCP316SD8/8 original from kingstone, it worked fine but at some random times(usually more than an hour) the graphics freeze and and shows up some weird patern like in the picture (it is not my mac but it is the same patern), I also changed the keyboard like 5 months ago but this problem shows up after the ram modification, I’ve read that might be the graphics card, but I can’t find a complete answer, so how can I be sure about the problem and is this repairable?? is it related to the ram change??

The 13” models use the intergraded graphics engine within the Intel CPU chip. What’s confusing you is the 15” models have two graphics engines! The same one as your’s and a second one from AMD.

But lets step back here, looking at the specs of the series: MacBookPro9,2

We can see both have this statement: “This model has an Intel HD Graphics 4000 graphics processor that shares memory with the system.”

So part of the systems RAM is leveraged for video RAM paging. Instead of having dedicated RAM like the 15” AMD graphics chips would have.

So … What I would do is look at the specs of the RAM you installed. You may have a bad module or ones that don’t meet the needed specs: 1600 MHz PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM SO-DIMMs (204-pin).

My best guess at this issue is that your graphics card may be getting hot after extensive use. If this is the issue, you may need to check that the heat can escape from the PC.
