Home button won’t ever work if replaced on iPhone 7 and above.

There are 3rd party reprogrammable buttons, but they are just buttons, it is impossible to repair Touch ID feature.

Not worried about Touch ID. Home button does not function what so ever

A home button from another iPhone 7 will do nothing but look cosmetic. Like Tom said you need something like the JC home button. They are not expensive.

you need an aftermarket button, an ebay special from japan will usually work and are inexpensive. genuine ones will never work unless apple install one for you at £300 upwards and sync it to the device. and aftermarket one will work just with passcode.
