Computer not recognizing the New Hard Drive Installed?

I installed a Western Digital 1.5 TB Caviar Green SATA Hard Drive on my 17" iMac Core Duo computer. When I start up the computer a white screen appears and after 30 seconds I see a folder with a question mark. I've inserted the snow leopard installation DVDs, but haven't been able to boot from the DVDs.

Any suggestions? It appears that the computer thinks there is no hard drive.

Insert the SnowLeopard disk and hold down the "C" key while booting up. Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities > Disk Utility. Select your drive in the left hand column. Format the drive and give it one partition. Now quit Utilities and continue with the system installation.

Mayer, I tell people to customize the instalations, most of the extra stuff is a waste, I do not need printer drivers, languages, X11, Rosetta or any of that!
