Why would screen be half dim and home/touch is not work?

I am helping a friend by changing their lighting board (mics were not working) and their earpiece because people could not hear him and he could not hear other people. Everything went well except now half the screen is dim and the home/touch is button is not working. Each time the phone powers on it says “unable to activate Touch ID”. Any ideas?

I am not sure what you mean by lighting board but these faults on the 7 plus are commonly caused by.

·         Cannot hear callers and callers cannot hear you.

Audio IC needs to be lifted and a jumper wire installed.

·         Screen half dim.

The 7 plus has two backlight circuits. A component on one of the circuits has been nudged or faulty.

·         Touch ID not working.

If this is the original home button for the phone check the home flex cable coming off the screen they can have a slight tear at the 90 degree bend which is hard to see. Also check for nudged components and damage to the connector. If all these check out good than your problem will be a faulty component or torn flex on the home button assembly.
