water damage/ will only work with mains outlet

my son was playing with my ipod touch 4th gen and somehow dropped it down the toilet, i didnt touch any buttons and put it in rice in a warm place for a week....turned it on and all was well for about half an hour when it suddenly turned off, i thought the battery was empty so i put it on charge and it all worked untill i pulled the cable out of the ipod and it went straight off.

i tried to restore it but it only gets power from the wall socket not the usb so thats a no no.

is it toast?

john, I would follow this guide first. After you got it cleaned and evaluated, change the battery for sure. You may have to follow this guide iPod Touch 4th Generation Teardown to get to the battery.

This is replacing my old awnser!

I would think it is the battery, they are cheap enough it is worth trying first with a high success rate trying, but you need to solder

To make the battery even more likely to work and avoid any more damage, take the iPod apart, put the logicboard in Isopropyl alcohol(99%) and clean the connection for the camera with a q-tip, that should never go in

In reguards to the display, i don't suggest doing that, but that is up to you, a q-tip is strongly recommended to clean the connectors on the display, to each thier own
