Please elaborate on the problem you're having and the symptoms so we can try to figure out what the problem is. Can you see the desktop dimly? Does it change when the screen is moved up and down? Thanks

Yes it's possible to replace the backlight unit if the lamp is blown. A good advice is to buy a cheap cracked LCD panel on ebay (make sure with the seller that the lamp is still working) and swap the two backlights. Not very difficult to do but you have to be meticulous when installing the backlight assy cause you could end up with a non even lightning on the screen.

+ If I could up you more than 1 on this I would very few regulars here on ifixit realize that replacing a backlight on a LCD is not that hard if you are careful and methodical about it.

I am going to try and help Mayer

Check with a flashlight to see if you see a picture

If you do, the inverter is likely bad

Also, raise the brightness and see what that does, to do this, press F1 for darker and F2 for brighter
