Are the bottom speakers stereo?

I noticed two speaker grilles - either side of the dock connector on my iPhone 3G.

While playing any sound, if I put my finger over the left grille sound all but disappears, I can still hear a little but only high frequencies from the right grille.

If I block the right grille, I hear no difference.

So the question: are there two speakers in the bottom of the iPhone 3G, and is one of mine possibly damaged?

Any fix, other than replacing the dock connector assembly?

Thanks in advance..
