Do I need to upgrade my iPhone 6 to set up my new Apple Watch?

Hi,

I am getting a new Apple Watch Series 3, but I have an iPhone 6. This only runs iOS 12, and I am buying from John Lewis in the UK. Will I need to upgrade my phone to be able to set up and use my watch?

Options

Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) requires an iPhone 6 or later with iOS 11 or later. Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) requires an iPhone 5s or later with iOS 11 or later.

To set up and use your Apple Watch, you need an iPhone with the latest version of iOS. watchOS 6 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 1 and later. Upgrading to watchOS 6 requires an iPhone 6s or later running iOS 13 or later.

Yes thank you. My Apple Watch arrived today and also had to upgrade to SE from my iPhone 6. I was planning on upgrading anyway at some point.
