Effect of submerging body in isopropyl alcohol (99.9%)

I accidentally spilled coffee on my keyboard and I think I managed to save the device by powering down, using compressed air on the keys, dehydrating with rice for 24 hrs etc. The issue is that the keyboard is still sticky and apple quoted me at about $550 just to replace the keyboard.

I was wondering whether I could remove the stickiness using isopropyl alcohol. Does anybody know the effect of submerging the body (not the screen) in 99.9% isopropyl alcohol without unscrewing any components (i.e. leaving the batteries inside the device)?

FYI - Rice won't dry out a wet system. Thats an old urban legend!

Rice only works with water vapor (humidity) not liquid water. Besides it won't remove the solids in the drink like the coffee, milk, cream or sugar.

Hi @lathyntimur

Lets just say it wouldn’t be a good idea… Isopropyl alcohol dissolves adhesive meaning that any kind of protective tapes inside the device would be ruined. This is especially a problem for the battery as it is encased in adhesive tape to protect it.

If you want to repair the computer the right way, here is a guide to replacing the top assembly and a fairly priced replacement part.
