Why is my typing asterick jumping all over making it hard to type?
I can hardly email or create documents with this erratic typing behavior

Has any liquid been spilled on the keyboard?
Try connecting a USB keyboard to the laptop and check if it works OK or has the same problem.
What OS is installed in the laptop?

It's the cursor that jumps to other locations around the page, my apology for using the wrong term. Sometimes the page may even scroll down or just now it jumped to "Add to your answer" I had this problem some years ago on a Toshiba Satellite but I can't remember what the fix was. No there hasn't been any liquids spilled on the keyboard. I'll see about borrowing an USB keyboard to try. I'm using Windows 7 Pro.

it sounds like the flex cable from the touchpad to MB is not connected properly. Check this type of wire which is connecting your touchpad with your motherboard.
