Please give us more information on what it will and won't do along with your model number. This is not a common problem.

It will still start up and run just won't switch cycles and run a full cycle can get it to do everything just not like it should lid does not lock in the lock light doesn't come on

will it advance the cycles by manually turning the settings knob? Please give me the model number.

yes it will advance cycles manually...model number is Kenmore series 500 model number 110-25132411
