Single black vertical line down display

So as the title suggests, I have a black line down the display now.

This is self inflicted as I’ve just had to chop the whole bloody thing apart to upgrade the RAM and swap out the disk for a SSD - which all works fine btw, no issues there - but the end result has been this black line down the display.

Block Image

It doesn’t appear in screenshots nor on my second monitor so it’s isolated to the display or the display data cable. I’ve tried flushing NVRAM and I’ve tried looking for any discernible breaks of blemishes in any of the cables or circuits… nothing.

Any ideas?

Ouch! You did your self in ;-{

In the process of removing the display you damaged the LCD panels connections along the edge. If you had gotten the special adhesive cutter which is part of this kit [linked product missing or disabled: IF173-005] it would have likely saved you.

Time for a new display assembly!

I certainly did... ironically I did get a kit like that, it wasn't a pizza cutter though more like a little stanley knife.

I had a feeling that I'd busted the display, I have a replacement on on order now, the full unit - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07G... - but I've also got the display cable on order so was wondering if I could get away with just replacing that... I guess not!

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

If you are careful you can transfer the cables over. Do re-order the needed adhesive strips! make sure you've fully cleaned off the old adhesive and clean the surfaces with reagent quality isopropyl alcohol (85% or better) Drug store alcohol is junk!

Yeah I've scraped off all the old adhesive, but a rubbing is a good call so will get hold of some of that. Thanks.

Incidentally, this was the kit that I bought and used for this disassembly. I guess the cutter just went in too deep. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M...

@Paul Aldred-Bann - Ah... The knife was not the correct tool here ;-{

Did you review the guides before you started??
