How to test proximity sensor on iOS 13.1.3

Hi,

I have repaired some phones now and have realized that the proximity sensor can’t be tested anymore with iOS 13.1.3 with the voice memo app. Apple have removed this function now.

Does anyone have an other quick and easy way to test the proximity without using any apps or have to connect the phone to any diagnostics program? And without having to call any one too.

It was so easy earlier with the voice memo test.

You can use the raise to unlock / lift to wake feature, when the proximity sensor is blocked it should not let the screen automatically go on when you pickup the phone.

I'm not certain this is testing the proximity sensor. I notice when you pick up the (sensors covered) phone the screen does not stay black but will be dimly lit. I think that is the ambient light sensor, not the proximity sensor. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't the screen go completely black for a successful proximity sensor test?

I agree with Barbara. The method above tests the ambient light sensor.

These are the options that we previously used which no longer work on newer iOS versions and 13:

- Voice Memos

-Siri (place up to your ear and screen should go black, well it used to)

-Make a phone call (currently the only option we're still able to use but only when a sim is present)

It would be good to know if there is another no service required option out there.

Yeah it is supposed to go black completely and stay black when you lift up the phone with the sensor removed. Guess that's out of the question.
