GPU upgrade 2007 2.8 Ghz to 2008 GPU

Hello, I own an 2007 iMac 24' 2.8 Ghz with an Ati Radeon HD 2600 (NOT Pro). 661-4426

Technically I should be able to replace the Graphics card with the Pro model or the Nvidia 8800 gs from the 2008 models. However, did anyone try that yet and will the efi firmware pick up these cards?

Thanks.

Update: I just went ahead an did it. Worked great! Installed a 8800gs in a Mid2007 iMac.

Hardware test is reporting 4SNS/1/40000000: TG0D-128.000, but everything seems to work fine. Can anyone translate this error code?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

gutsy move, did you run any benchmarks before or after?

Unfortunately the old card was broken (that's the reason for the change in the first place). If you can recommend a good 3D benchmark (that has known results for a mid2007 imac with a radeon 2600), I'd use it right away.

Since these folks are selling the part, I would venture to guess that they would know if this exchange works. I would contact them and ask. Of course their part is high dollar: http://www.welovemacs.com/6614426.html
