Power steering making a horibel noise! what could it be?

my dodge caravan 2001 has had a whiny power steering noise there is fluid in it until recently the noise would stop when the van would get warm now it is all the time and at times it feels like its grinding when i turn or like there is no power steering i just need to know if it sounds like i need a new power steering or if there is an easy fix? your answers are greatly appreciated

It sounds like your rack and pinion is going bad. Sadly, it is a common failure on this generation (2001-2007) Chrysler minivan. Replacing the rack isn't a bad job, but since it would need to be aligned afterwards, you are probably better off taking it to a shop. I'd also recommend calling several shops to get a quote - include a reputable chrysler or dodge dealer in that list. Sometimes the dealer *can* be cheaper.

It may be a dirty filter in the power steering resvior starving the power pump

It's the power steering pump for sure. You just need a new power steering pump.

Replace the ps reservoir, 90% of the time this $30 part is the fix . Try this before investing hundreds in a new ps pump .
