iPhone 8 rear camera problems after fall

After a fall, my iPhone 8 rear camera isn't detected and the flash doesn't seem to work either (tested with torch function).

Now I've opened it, disconnected the battery and disconnected the camera and re-assembled everything. It seemed to work fine then for a few hours and now the same 2 problems are back.

I'm a bit reluctant to order an expensive rear camera, because I think the problems lays with the motherboard since it affects both flash and camera at the same time which are independent of eachother (right?)

Is it likely that the problem lays with the motherboard?

The issue can be anywhere, camera or logic board..anything that stops working after some time is particularly difficult to diagnose for obvious reasons. Flashlight is dependent on camera, if camera stops working the led will follow suite. A camera replacement might solve the issue but that’s a pretty expensive part on an iPhone 8..hard to tell what’s the more recommendable path to choose, camera replacement or a microsoldering lab to fix the issue. In the end choice is yours.

In the repair guide I don't see how the torch and camera are related. They don't share a cable or am I missing something?

by

@faloude You're not missing anything, camera provides an enable signal to the IC that takes care of leds, but that goes beyond the scope of a replacement guide and it's an info of little use for someone who has to replace parts. We are talking about logic board circuits, you'll have to trust the info or to get into schematics to verify it.

@arbaman thats the in-depth detail I was hoping for, thanks. Would this enable signal also be required for the torch function which involves the flash but not the camera?

by

@faloude You're welcome, yes, no flash light and no torch either without the enable signal from camera, the IC just stands-by, if that's the info you wanted to have confirmed.

You might of damaged the connector to the logic board during the fall

If it works for a short period of time, it could be a capacitor that is starting to fail. I recommend you have it tested at a phone repair shop and replace any defective parts.
