Xbox 360 drives are "Married" to the motherboard that they originaly came with, and replacing the whole drive will leave you unable to play Xbox 360 game disks. In order to fix this, you need to either fix the original drive using parts from a drive of the same model, or "re-marry" the drives, which is much more complicated. If you haven't already, buy a DVD drive that is the same model of the one that was originally in your console (There are 4 different types of drives in non-slim consoles, Toshiba-Samsung, Hitachi, BenQ, and LiteOn) Now, install the controller board from the old drive into the new drive.
