No touch functionality with home button cable installed.

Hello, I am in the middle of a screen replacement on an iPhone 8. The problem is that when the cable which goes from the logic board to the home button is installed, I don't get touch functionality. If I leave the cable unplugged, but LCD and digitizer cable connected. Touch functionality returns, and I can use the phone.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

There might be a damage on the home button flex that causes a short, that would be the most reasonable explanation. If the old screen is still functional move your home button on that and see what happens. Most issues appearing after parts replacements are usually caused by involuntary damages. If you have some good magnification and light might help in spotting where damage is.

Well the weird thing that I forgot to mention is that the home button isn't even installed and the touch still doesn't work. I have tried with and without the home button, different screens same problem every time.

That rules out the screen connecting cable but not the home button flex that it's still a possibility. Other than that you may have a board issue, try check components around the home button socket on the board.
