Tv keeps switching on then off

When I plug the mains power lead into the tv the Samsung logo comes up followed by a black screen with the “HDMI 1” info showing in the top left corner. It then turns off & the whole process is repeated over & over until the mains power lead is unplugged again. Pressing any button on the remote control while the HDMI logo is on screen registers as the power light blinks but nothing happens

Answer this question I have this problem too

Here’s a series of steps I tried when fixing my Samsung TV, starting from simple to more complicated/costly repair options.

  1. Some people found that the remote control was causing their problem. Check remote control by replacing batteries in remote.
  2. Identify the TV’s model number and serial number, which is usually on a sticker on the back of the TV. You will need this info when contacting Samsung or searching online for repair tips and replacement parts.
  3. Try contacting Samsung using contact info listed in the user manual or Samsung’s website. They may be more helpful if the TV is still under warranty.
  4. Try to reset the TV by unplugging the power cord, leaving it unpowered for 10 minutes, then hold the power button for 60 seconds. While waiting, inspect the cord for damage, unplug and inspect all other cables, vacuum any dust around the TV’s vents/connectors, and reseat the cables. If you have a multimeter and have basic electrical safety knowledge, test the power supply to ensure it is producing the appropriate voltage according to the power supply label. Plug the TV back in and see if the issue is resolved.
  5. Search online using your TV’s model number for repair tips. Some people found that changing the settings on the TV (such as turning off AnyNet+), connecting the TV to the Internet via ethernet cable, or doing a software update fixed the problem. Be careful if you do a software update; if the TV shuts off mid-update, your TV can be damaged.
  6. Some repairs required opening up the TV, which requires basic electrical safety precautions and may void your warranty. If you do not feel comfortable doing so, do not proceed any further and consult a TV/electronics repair shop.
  7. Unplug all cords/cables and leave the TV unpowered for several minutes to allow the capacitors to discharge. Clear an area large enough to place your TV with the screen side down. If your TV has a table mount that juts outs from the front of the TV, place a pillow underneath the TV screen to support it when removing the mount.
  8. Set the TV screen side down and open the TV by unscrewing the mount and the back of the TV case. Since some screws may be different dimensions, make sure to note which screws go where.
  9. Once the back has been removed, take pictures of the layout of the TV’s inner components to ensure you can reassemble them. Also, make written notes of any labels on the circuit boards, especially if they have part numbers on them.
  10. Remove dust by using compressed air. Examine circuit boards for burst capacitors, cracked solder joints, scorch marks, or corrosion on electrical components/circuit boards. For burst capacitors, you can try replacing them with new capacitors of appropriate specifications (https://www.instructables.com/id/Repair-...). Cracked solder joints can be resoldered (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQXkvrUP...). Otherwise, replace any visibly damaged circuit boards with new circuit boards. Using the part numbers of the circuit boards/TV, I have ordered replacement boards from https://www.shopjimmy.com/samsung
  11. If you do not see any visibly damaged components, you can try unplugging and re-inserting all cables inside the TV since the contacts may have gotten loose. Also, try loosening and re-tightening the screws that hold the circuit boards to the TV, since loose ground screws have caused this problem (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvX-QQDW...). Reassemble the TV and plug the power back in after this step to see if it has fixed the problem.
  12. If your TV still does not work and it has the ability to connect to wi-fi, you may want to try re-opening the TV and unplugging the cable connected to the wi-fi module (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1cPPA9Q...). Reassemble the TV and plug the power back in after this step to see if it has fixed the problem..
  13. Lastly, see if replacement boards are available and replace them in a trial-and-error method. Since the issue is power-related, I would suggest replacing the power supply board first. However, in my own experience, the on-and-off issue with my Samsung TV was resolved by replacing the main board after I had already tried replacing the power supply board.
