See step #16 of this guide, it’s a small metal plate, probably covering a test port as there is nothing exiting it:

@oliviertlse as @mayer pointed out already, nothing missing but a cover. that is actually the "Lifeboat" connector "Data Migration Tool connector". The connector is actually there because of the soldered down SSD. It gives access to the SSD data data on a dead MacBook Pro.

it’s called a lifeboat connector, which is missing. with this missing, your macbook would not recognize internal storage.

Here’s a picture of the cover as it also a bridge connector which is needed! Did you forget it or did someone forget to put it on?
