Internal keyboard stops working after 1% battery.

Hi, I have this Macbook Pro for quite some time now and a couple of months ago the keyboard just stopped working completely. I tried everything but it just wouldn’t work. Yesterday my battery on my MacBook pro was completely out of juice so I plugged it in and when it booted up the keyboard fully worked. It worked for around a minute and then it didn’t work again. It only works if the battery is drained. I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and even opened it up and disconnected the battery and connected it again but no luck, it stops working after reaching 2% battery every time. PLEASE HELP!

Are you able to hook up an external keyboard USB or Bluetooth? Does that work when the internal fails?

It does sound like your battery is failing here. As the battery ages it can swell up pressing on the keyboard just above it. Lets tale a loon at it using this gem of an app! CoconutBattery. Post a snapshot of the main window here so we can see it too! Adding images to an existing question

Battery looks good!

At this point I would guess your keyboard has a spill at some point and the keyboard will need replacement.

Update (10/07/2019)

Sorry, the keyboard connection to the logic board is part of the keyboard and not replaceable on its own

But why would it fully work if it's broken? And no I don't use my laptop with a hub because I don't own one.

By fully work I mean the one minute that it works... Could it be the keyboard flex cable or could it be a motherboard issue?

by

Sorry I confused you I was working on a second post which got mixed up.

Your keyboard does not have a replaceable cable its intergraded within the keyboard its self. Did you have a spill at one point?

by

I believe this model has a flex cable going from the keyboard to the motherboard but you have to get the motherboard out first. I did not have any spills that I know of.

Ok, I'm pretty sure that the cable can change its just a matter of peeling off the tape. That's not what I care about. The thing is that I'm concerned about if it is a motherboard issue because excluding the keyboard problem it also has a problem with sleeping/waking when the lid closes/opens and has some screen artifacts. I can post photos if you would like me to.
