Changed battery but screen brightness stays at 1/4 brightness.

No matter where brightness slider is positioned the screen never gets brighter than 1/4 with auto brightness switched on or off. Auto brightness does not work at all. All functions work fine including both cameras. Looking at screen facing camera, resembles a quarter moon sliver of lighter coloured material. Advice???

Just a very basic question: can brightness be increased/decreased normally with control center slider ? Didn't quite get that from your question..

by

The slider works for the first quarter of adjustment noticeably brightening the sceen from its most darkened setting to just slightly lighter. The adjuster can continue to be moved toward full bright but has no effect beyond the first quarter of its range. Yes I have turned off all the various settings such as auto brightness&c as well as done a hard reset to no avail. Also even in auto bright on, there is ZERO response to exposing the light sensor to full dark or brightly illuminated ambiant environment

Minho could be right. Try the screen without the front camera flex connected. If it is still the same it would point to a backlight circuit rebuild.

So followed your advice - with or without front camera flex plugged in, the brightness adjust ment was the same - so will this part number fix it? Item code: IF268-008-1 Also is this part a direct drop in no other pieces required? Is this a genuine Apple part or OEM??

by

@danlaw It's quite the opposite unfortunately..what Chris meant was that in absence of change in behaviour with/without front camera connected points to a backlight issue, that is a board failure. Useless to try replacing that part, you'll need a microsoldering Pro to fix the issue.

While you don’t normally fiddle with the FCAM Sensor flex when replacing a battery, it is the first thing I would check in this instance. If the Ambient Light Sensor was knocked out of position, it may impede the brightness function.

Alternatively, it could be the flex that was damaged, especially if you did not completely remove the screen while doing the battery repair. Either way, check out this guide.
