Can I repair my front microphone?

I stupidly attempted to clear some of the dust from the grill of my microphone with an air gun. The microphone for recording videos works fine but no one can hear me if I try to make a call. Any ideas?

One of the phone’s mic’s is on the charge port so you could try replacing that and see if it improves your situation. If that doesn’t help you could also try replacing your proximity flex cable, where the other mic is located. I’ll post links to repair guides below, parts needed should also be linked in the guides

Hope this helps!

do you have the guides for a regular iPhone 8? people can't hear me on calls, and voice memos don't record. One of the mics does pick up sound when I record video though.

Was everything working fine before you attempted to blow things out or was the same thing happening? It could be that you attempt to blow things out actually may have made the problem worse. I would try using a toothpick and toothbrush to clean out the holes manually. If this does not fix the problem, you may need to replace the charge port.

Hi Carlos, Thanks for responding to my question. I didn’t try to blow any high pressure air on the microphone or charging port. I did pick out some dust and dirt with a paperclip though. I just installed the latest iOS update, and the next day, my mic stopped working. People couldn’t hear me at all on calls, and voice memos don’t record, though on occasion, it the mic will work. As I said before, I can make videos that have clear sound. I did restart and reset the phone. That has not worked. So, changing the charge port is something that I can do that will fix the mic as well? If so, is there a manual on how to do this and a place to order the replacement parts? Thanks a million! Cheers, Paul
