Display flickers then goes black - what next after inverter?

Display started flickering for a few days then went black. External monitor mirrored works fine.

I replaced the inverter, which brought the screen back, but only for a few hours. Flickering returned and is black again.

Screen briefly returns to life on boot or on wake from sleep, then turns black again. Any help is appreciated!

I'd try one more inverter and then take it to Apple and spend the $280 for them to fix it.

Thanks- any idea what they would be replacing/fixing?

The LCD panel, Apple part # 661-4983. Do a search for that number and you'll see that $280 is a real cheap repair.

Thanks! Would you suggest I take it in to get a diagnostic on the LCD and then replace myself or just have them do it? Is there any way to confirm the LCD is bad myself?

Hook it up to an external monitor. If it works, there's very little else it can be. You could try the LVDS cable and that's about it. Here's the parts, take a look: http://www.welovemacs.com/imacmb417lla.h...

The only way to really tell is to switch LCDs. You obviously didn't Google that part number or you wouldn't be asking about a DIY fix.

Thanks - I did google it (the LCD panel - right?) I saw one place offer it for about $280 but was out of stock - everywhere else was $700ish, except for a few on eBay for $120 with pixel issues. I'll head to the Apple store! Thanks for all the help - You have great advice
