Why does my 2ds xl 'turn on', but shows no video nor play audio

I don’t know if it’s something that I did myself or that it just somehow happened, however, now, when I turn on my 2ds xl it seems to turn on, only judging by my ability to turn it back off. I have no clue if something disconnected, shorted, whatever. No audio plays with the audio slider at max, and nothing shows on the screen, and I can’t easily navigate to the brightness menu to try to turn it up. The touch screen does work since I can turn off the 2ds by ‘tapping’ the button, although I cannot see it. Oddly enough, though, the system can be turned on with the device closed shut, which I don’t recall being an ability its able to do.

What should I do?

Note: I am assuming the battery is not the issue because you said it turns on, but just be aware that the 2DS XL’s were released with a lot of faulty batteries.

The official advice on this is as follows:

Complete these steps

  1. If the system is a Nintendo 2DS, ensure that the Sleep Mode switch is pushed all the way to the left. You should not see any orange color (this is displayed when the switch is turned on). If Sleep Mode was turned on, press the POWER Button to see if the issue is resolved.
  2. Press and hold the POWER Button down until the system powers off. Then power the system back on. This may take more than 10 seconds.

If the issue is not resolved, the system will need to be repaired.
