Using blade SSD and SATA SSD in 2017 iMac 21.5"?

I just bought a used 2017 iMac 21.5” with the i7 processor. The iMac came with a 256GB blade SSD. I’m already planning to open it up and do a RAM upgrade and was thinking about putting in a larger internal SATA SSD (1TB). Could I leave the blade SSD in there as well and have both drives recognized by the OS?

Also, will I have to purchase SATA cables to install an SSD?

Yes you can leave the SSD blade drive in and add an SATA 2.5” SSD drive:

To add with @mayer ‘s answer: Setup your new drive as a data drive moving all of your work and content to it, leaving the blade SSD as your boot, application & cache drive. Leaving the rest of your blade SSD drive empty!

Dual drive configs setup this way will give you the best performance!
