Philips tv goes black right after philips logo on startup

Hi,

I have a Philips 40pft5300, this morning when I turned it on it gave me a flash of the philips logo and then turned black, I can see the shapes on the screen with a flashlight and sound goes trough fine. But no light! All of the led’s works fine, had it opened to see. I am kind of lost right now, and are worried for the voltage the led's get on startup? Is it normal to fly to 30+ volts and slowly fall down to 20 ish? Have posted as many pics as posible

@jensklj this “Is it normal to fly to 30+ volts and slowly fall down to 20 ish” makes me think you are having an issue with either the power board not providing proper voltage or the main board not sending a proper signal to turn the lights on. Measure the voltage on the connector from the power board to the main board and let us know what those are. Of course it could always be the backlight array but I want you to be reasonably sure.

CArefully look if the capacitors are ‘bulged’ or leaky? If yes, u need to solder them. (they cost only 1-2 $)

Hi @jensklj

I have worked on TV’s in the past with your exact issue . I tried every board replacement because the back lights worked fine, but it didn’t fix the problem.

What you need are a new set of back light strips. Even though they work fine, they are starting to fail in a way that draws too many amps from the power supply. This is why they are cut off right after working for a split second. Once they are replaced, the TV should work fine.

I recommend taking a look at Shop Jimmy for replacement parts. They make new strips that are intended to last longer than the original.
