Why cant I get my display to extend to multiple monitors?

I’m trying to extend my laptop screen onto 2 monitors that I have. My laptop is a HP pavilion x360 and only has a aingle HDMI port. both of my monitors use VGA connections. I purchased a HDMI to VGA adapter as well as a VGA Splitter to go to both Monitors.

Both the monitors pick up the display but are just a copy of eachother. What I want is a extended display over both. When I try to detect a new display under my display settings it says it cant detect another display.

Anybody know how to get this to work? if possible?

For this kind of question knowing which operating system you are using is a must. Inclusion of your laptop model would also be relevant. Quick answer Google for "extended desktop" (or similar) along with your current level of operating system being used on your device. You should have no problem getting the information you need.

Edit: BTW, Get one extended monitor working correctly first.

@bigtrav “VGA Splitter to go to both Monitors” will send the same signal to each monitor it will not detect each one separately but will simply do mirroring. Easiest for you would be to purchase an additional USB to VGA adapter. This is is addition to your computer’s HDMI port.

well thats kind of a simple answer when you think about it. you are splitting 1 source into 2. they are always going to duplicate no matter what because its only putting that 1 output through the hdmi.
