iPhone is disabled. Connect to iTunes. No backup. Lose eveything?

Hi.

My teenage son has entered his pin code on his old iPhone 6 incorrectly over 10 times and been locked out (don’t ask). The screen now reads:

iPhone is disabled

connect to iTunes.

He doesn’t seem to have ever backed it up (despite my nags!) so the only backup that exists seems to be from 2017 on iCloud (and I’m not even sure about that). I’ve installed iTunes and iCloud on his laptop (using his Apple ID) but still can’t seem to get anywhere.

From all I’ve read I’ll have to reset the phone (i.e. wipe it) and try to reinstall from the iCloud back up. I’ll do this as a last resort (assuming I can work out how to do it).

Questions:

1) Is there any way I can save the data on his phone?

2) How do I reset it and restor it using iCloud (not iTunes)

BTW. My son is an arse and I use Android throughout so know nothing of iStuff past iPhone 3.

Thanks for any help.

His data is gone. There is no way to get the data. All you can do is restore it and lose the data
