the i pod could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt
water damage but i am cleaning

Did you let the iPod dry for several days before attempting to restore it?
You should open the top bezel and let it dry for a few days.

Depending on what the water damage was you could put some alcohol in inside it which will let dry out and evaporate quickly. Let us know if this helps.
