MacBook Pro not charging (light on)?

Hi guys, the MacBook Pro is having this weird issue of charging in low wattage (less than 1Watt) according to coconutbattery. The battery health is 95% and cycle count is 25. Apple Genius ran tests and said the battery is failing. YouTube and Louis Roseman makes me believe it’s the logic board. Is it worth going with Apple for the battery replacement or anything else to diagnose and narrow down this problem?

Did Apple use your Mag-Safe or theirs?

They used theirs and ran the tests.

I agree with Louis, probably a current sensing issue with the logic board. I wouldn’t waste money on a battery replacement, it’s the easiest and cheapest fix attempt, but it doesn’t seem it would solve your problem..with data you supplied battery seems to be in working order.

So do you think I should send it out to Louis for checking? Or just get a tester and just try to diagnose the voltages?

by

@Tharindu Weerasooriya Voltages will most probably be fine. You'll have test current sensing and other resistors along the charging circuit. It will take some time, at least a multimeter and schematics for reference.

I see! Sounds like a fun project to do and figure it out. It’s my first time doing a repair or inspection this level, any idea on where to find the schematics? Is itadmins the place for it?

Tharindu Weerasooriya who is Louis and why does it matter when we have @arbaman @mayer @danj and others that are always willing to assist.

Check your current sensing circuitry on your board

@oldturkey03 - I had pointed to Louis Rossmann's vid What does knockoff charger do to Macbook Pro Retina? As its likely the resistors overheated from a bad charger.
