Mower just clicks won't start

I have a cub cadet lt1050. It's been having problems starting so I replaced the battery and it worked for a while then it started having problems again and I would hammer on the starter to get it going. Now it won’t start no matter what I do. Ive tried jumping the selnoid and it still just clicks. What should I try next?

Don't ever bang on the starter believe it or not it's not good for it maybe tapping on the bottom is ok but you can seriously mess up the inside of the starter I went to pick up a starter whose been working on them for 35 years and over heard him telling someone else that

Hey Seth.

I’d just make sure the electrical connections between the battery, solenoid and starter are sound, and the battery is fully charged. If the key switch won’t start it, and your jumping the solenoid won’t either, then it’s almost sure the problem is with the starter. Sometimes the gear that engages the flywheel is made of plastic, and it wears over time, requiring replacement of the gear only, instead of the whole starter. Either way, the starter removal and installation is fairly straight forward and simple (don’t forget to remove the ground from the battery before you start).

Good Luck.

Starter Assist Relay should fix it up. Cheap fix.
