where's the best place to buy new parts?

I need to buy replacement hinges, screen and top case for my macbook air, i've had a look around on various sites, the cheapest i've found is on eBay where i can get a new screen for £50, hinges for about £80 and top case from around £50, i was just wondering if there was a cheaper way of getting replacement parts, maybe a site i missed or something?

Thanks

New parts or used parts. New parts are hard to find but can be had at some Apple Authorized Service Providers and sometimes other places like iFixit. Used parts are like used cars, some have a lot more milage than others. iFixit prices are higher (sorry boys, but you know they are), but I only have to order the part once because its been tested and cleaned. When there are variations in wear, iFixit states so and gives different prices. For me buying on eBay or Craigslist is a crap shoot. Or as Forest Gump says , "a box of chocolates". I do buy a machine on eBay about once a month, but I look for the ones that state what is wrong or ones that they don't know what is wrong. My thought is that if a Mac is working OK, most people don't want to sell it unless that's their business.

I don't mind if they are new or used, just as long as they work! That is a problem with eBay, you never know how honest the sellers are, I bought a bottom case for may air just the other week, said it was in good condition, when it arrived there was a crack down one of the thread housing, it does the job but it would have been nice to know before i bought it! i've never heard of craigslist, i'll have to look that one up. Thanks

Well if you want parts that work the first time click on this link: http://www.ifixit.com/Parts-Store, use the guides to find you machine and order the part. Their shipping is fast and I don't lose customers messing with an returned item on eBay. The problem with an RMA or a return on eBay is that your money is tied up and you have to ship the part back, maybe they have another part (untested) that they can ship or you have to wait to get your money returned and then try to find a working part. Usually you'll have three weeks in it and a customer that will go elsewhere next time.

BTW - I don't work for iFixit so this is not SPAM. I have accepted a tee shirt from them as a gratuity for getting 500 points

You could look around the iFixit part store or dig on eBay for a deal... but if you want to save money typically your best bet is finding a non-working unit with the parts you need intact and haggle a deal for it.

Edit: Here's a link to parts relevant to the machine you listed in your original question:

Be sure to select the proper model according to the time-frame your computer was manufactured.

I hope this helps, and wish you luck with your repairs!

I've never used the iFixit store, how does it work? Is it individual sellers or what? Yer i think it's just a waiting game to find a good deal.

The iFixit store offers mostly new (and some used) parts for a wide variety of Apple products. The used parts are always in tested and working condition. The store does not offer parts from individual sellers such like eBay or Craigslist do, but does sell individual parts from computers that have been sold to iFixit by individual owners.
