It is possible to fit a 2012 Logic Board in the 2011 Model?

Hi, my MBP early 2011 (15” “Hi-Res” Display) died again because of the AMD graphic card issue (swapped the GPU the last time), also one RAM-Slot is broken for a while now. I think a good time for swapping the whole logicboard.

Just to make it clear:

It is possible to fit a 2012 Logic Board in the 2011 Model? Are the heatsinks the same in the 15” model or do I need a new one? I also would like to replace the Airport/Bluetooh-Card with the 2012 model, which one do I need? Is it this one: BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX? The only small problem is the display connector? Do I need to change it or does it fit?

Best regards

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The connector is slightly different, but all of the other stuff will transfer over. I was unable to make the connection fit myself, but it seems that some are able to. Anyway, a much better option is to go see my friend Steven @ Logic-Boards.com. He's a fantastic board-level repair resource, and he sells refurbished 2012 MBP15 boards on which he's replaced the display connector w/ the 2011 one. I've used this on several client systems, and it is just an excellent solution.

I think that would be a little bit pricy as I am from Germany. What I mentioned: The RAM is running at 1.35V in the 2012 Model, my RAM is running at 1.5V. Will this cause problems?

I also replaced my 2011, 15 inch, matte screen logic board with a 2012 logic board. Aside the really tight fit for the video connector, there were no problems. Any memory voltage difference was not a problem.

All you need to do if carefully file the edge of the fiberglass tang with a fine nail emory board two or three strokes on each side its so little that needs to be knocked off.

If you need your machine while waiting on a new logic board, install this little gem to turn off the part of the GPU.

gFX card status. https://gfx.io

I have gotten about five 2011 15 MBP running again using this.
