Will only boot up after battery has been unplugged for extended period

No light on charger, will not power on. Unplug battery, use charger only: no power. Unplug battery for extended period, plug back in, charger works and computer comes on… most of the time. Will work for several hours then just power off and won’t come back on until I unplug battery as above. I have cleaned around Power key, I/O board assembly and power socket. No change. Now I am running only on battery to run down the charge to almost zero, will recharge and run down again to calibrate battery to remove it from the list of suspects. Customer says no spill. Inside looks pristine, no water marks activated and no corrosion visible with my Dollar store magnifying glass

Answer this question I have this problem too

It’s a genuine Mac charger and it’s fine. It’s been tested on another Mac. My own charger will not light up on this MBA when the problem is present. However when battery has been unplugged for a time, the mag safe light will come up and the mac will turn on. The battery is fully charged and lasted a good 6+ hours on video playback. So this is an intermittent problem: can we safely point the finger to the I/O board or might it not be the mainboard?

Can you post the snapshot of CoconutBattery so we can see what its telling us when the MagSafe chargers LED is not lit and a second one when it is lit.

Even after unplugging the battery overnight, I can't get the charger to light up or the MBA to power up anymore at all after running the battery down. I will remove mainboard and check for corrosion underneath and clean if present. If still no luck, I will order a replacement I/o board and post back. Thanks for your suggestions.

The I/O board has been replaced: no change. I may send the mainboard in for repair depending on the client's wishes.
