Why is the replacement fan spinning too fast?

Hi there,

Is just changed my mid-2009 right fan, and when I start my Mac, the fan spins at ful speed, and in utilities such as smcFancontrol, the replacement fan is shown spinning at 0rpm.

I tried resetting the SMC, with no effect.

Can anyone help me on this one ?

thanks in advance

Just to make sure, the connector for the replacement fan is sitting correctly. I ask as the third wire is for reading the speed and if it reads 0 RPM the power wires will get full power to try and spin up the fan.

If the wire is sitting correctly, put in your operating system disc and reboot your Macbook Pro. after the chime, press and hold the "D" key. this will enter a diagnostic program. choose run program. It will test the Macbook Pro including the thermal controls (sensors and fans) and will tell you if there is indeed something wrong.

Post any error codes that you get.
