My home button on my 3gs not working

hello there ifixit

my home button wont work only sometimes and i have like press really hard for it to work

so i was looking around in the repair guides and found no guide to fixing a home button?can you guys help me out with that?

OR

what do you recomend getting a whole NEW display assembly because it too hard?my glass on my 3gs is NOT BROKEN

and do you guys have a home button part?

i didn't but thanks for helping me i ended up destroying my iphone 3gs digitizer and ended up buying a new white screen for the 3gs and a new home button connector the gold tabs were not even there i guess they broke off

Before you buy any parts I would try this:

Open the iPhone and look at the home button connector at the bottom of the iPhone. You see the gold contacts. Now very, very carefully (you can so easily break them!) pull/pry them up slowly with a needle or something. Install your screen and check it that helps.

Is there a click when you press the button? Usually a broken home button has no click. If it still clicks I would try with the screen attached but open so you can short the home button contacts to see if you can simulate a home click.

Now if the above doesn't help and you are not confident heating and removing the glass I suggest you buy a complete digitizer assembly with the home button. You could get that cheap on Ebay.
