42LN5300-UB no picture but "no signal" flashes on and off

The other day I flipped the breaker off to replace a light fixture and when I flipped it back on my TV (LG 42LN5300-UB on a surge protector) wouldn’t come back on. I tried another TV in it’s place and it works fine. I moved the TV in question to another location and it still didn’t work. You can see “no signal” flash on the screen briefly and then go off. Then it will briefly flash on in a different place on the screen and go off. This keeps repeating in different locations on the screen. That being said I’m assuming the backlights are not my problem. I tried a new power board but that didn’t work. I’m hoping someone can guide me in the right direction so I can fix this. Thanks!

Hi @jobeez ,

Have you tried a power reset to see if that worked?

Remove the power from the TV and then press and hold the TV power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual power from the TV to restore any corrupted data back to default values. Reconnect the power and switch on. Assuming that you can get into the menus OK and that the TV is connected to a TV antenna, rescan for the TV signals to see if that worked.

Have you tried different signal inputs such as HDMI, AV or Component input to see if you get a picture?

If you do, then here’s a link to the appropriate section in the service manual that describes the troubleshooting procedure for no digital/analogue TV signal.

If you don’t get a signal on any input type, the pages in the manual following the one I linked, describe the troubleshooting procedure for the other signal input types.

All the flowcharts end up saying replace the mainboard as the last option for no signal problems..

I realize that the manual is for a 32LN5300 but I’m hoping that the only difference is the screen size and the circuitry associated to accommodate that.

As an aside, does your surge protector give an indication that it may have operated due to a surge, such as an indicator light on the protector not glowing? Some lower end protectors give no indication that they have operated in the past and once operated, even though there is still power from them, offer no further protection as they are of the “sacrificial” type. The better ones either show no light after a surge or there is no power available from them anymore. Just a thought.
