Known as the ''PS2'', it is a sixth-generation video game console first released by Sony in Japan in March 2000. The United States saw it later in 2000 with the SCPH-30000. Repair of this device requires only common tools, but can get tricky.

PS2 Loading in Black and White

I have an HD TV and have plugged the yellow/red/white cables into the component sockets in the back, and now my PS2 only loads in black and white? Tried changing the source to AV but obviously as nothing is plugged in there is comes up with no signal. I've gone into the system configuration on the PS2 and it's set up for YCb/Pb/Cr/Pr (which is what I have). Not sure what to try next! TIA

COMPONENT=x5 inputs

COMPOSITE=x3 inputs, good old fashioned inputs (x1 video signal + x2 audio signals)

I had the same issue with my PS2 with Toshiba HDTV. The TV only has COMPONENT inputs (+HDMI & Optical interface), and even though PS2 has settings for COMPONENT cables & RGB (COMPOSITE), the setting did not change anything nor did the TV’s settings. My solution was to ignore the COMPONENT cables and use COMPOSITE cable. The audio inputs on the TV are always the same; x2 inputs but as I connected the YELLOW output (Vid signal) to the GREEN input on the TV, it fixed the issue. The resolution may be downgraded but not so much that it affects playing games. Not sure about playing movies, as I watch movies on my Fujitsu notebook.

Not a directly related topic, but although I am Japanese I still enjoy PS2 games and PS4 is ridiculously overpriced. I had to sacrifice playing video games in my 20’s & 30’s to achieve higher priorities in life, so I am revisiting the past and trying to catch up with the games I had to miss.
