iPhone 3G battery voltage - 3.7V or 3.7V 4.26W?

Lately i have been working on brand new iPhones from apple and 3G phones have contained 3GS batteries of higher voltage. These phones have come in due to faulty battery issues not holding charge. Is it caused due to an incorrect voltage battery being put inside the phone or is it just a coincidence?
