My son's xbox wet from roof leak

Yesterday we discovered a leak in my son's bedroom ceiling which just so happened to be located directly above his xbox (go figure). When lifted it up and tipped it over, water came pouring out! We've left it on front of a fan to see if it could dry over night. It's still under the 1 year warranty but I don't believe it covers water damage. Is there any way it can still be saved?

Answer this question I have this problem too

That’s very unfortunate.

The only way to be sure that the unit is free of any liquid would be to open the xbox. However, this would void the remainder of the warranty.

Another method would be placing it near a dehumidifier to draw the moisture out while it is on its side. Again, you still wouldn’t know without opening the xbox. I would wait a few days before trying to turn it on.

I agree with Joshua Freeman, opening is the only way to verify. If the warranty does indeed not cover water damage, it's very unfortunate, but you have nothing to lose by opening it and checking around. The worst part is popping that first clip in the back left corner as it always sounds like plastic cracking although I've never found that to actually be the case. Is it possible to claim the damaged console through your insurance policy? If so you could simply replace the system and, if the hard drive still works in the old one, swap it into the new system so he retains all his saved games

Don't think the excess from an insurance claim would make it worth it from the value of the console.

To get that fixed it'll require getting it repaired from a reputable console repair store.
