MacBook Pro 15" Mid-2010 won't turn on

Hi people,

My wife’s trusted MBP won’t turn on.

The first clue is that the Magsafe indicator does not turn green when plugged. I have tried with another Magsafe charger, borrowed from a friend, but the result is the same, no green light at all.

The second clue is linked to the charging indicator (on the side of the laptop): its first led blinks green rapidly when the Magsafe is plugged (upon pressing the button), but won’t turn on when the Magsafe is not connected.

Any clues?

Thanks in advance for any input, and I apologize if this question has been asked before (I have searched the similar questions but found none with the exact same conditions).

I assume the MagSafe plug stays Amber even after leaving it charging for 8 hrs. If thats the case you need a new battery: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2010) Battery and here’s the guide you’ll need to follow: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Battery Replacement

Stephane - Well, that puts a wrinkle in the answer!

While you likely need a new battery, that's not your issue here.

No MagSafe LED is telling me either the MagSafe connector (DC-In board) or the charging logic has issues.

Hi, thanks for the answer. Actually there is no light at all on the Magsafe, at any point in time.

Thanks a lot for the answer. I will attempt to replace the DC-In board.

When you mention that it could also come from issues on the charging logic, how is that fixed? Is this part of the main logic board, or the DC-In board, or something else? Thanks ahead.

The charging logic is part of the main logic board. You will need someone with the skills to fix it or you could just replace the logic board.

A common issue is people get fake chargers (often time not realizing it) which damages your system. Heres a bit more on that OEM MagSafe Chargers vs Cheap Imposters: Teardown for Truth
