Why is phone only able to go into DFU mode?

Phone won't turn on, only get black screen, and able o get into DFU mode, iTunes sees phone in "recovery" mode. I want to get it to boot so I can use Disk Aide to get data off the phone. It has the red water damage dot in dock connector.

I have tried tiny umbrella to kick it out of DFU mode, and then it disconnects from my Mac, and still has black screen. This is a 32GB model running iOS 4.1.2.

Is there a way to get it to boot?

try replacing the damaged dock connector so that you can charge your battery fully. if the battery isn't fully charged then it won't be able to communicate fully with your pc. the pc won't provide enough power to do the restore. dfu mode will delete you information..
