Replaced original battery with iFixit battery

I found my old click wheel iPod in the cupboard and decided to replace the original battery with the iFixit one, it was not holding a charge as it's around 15 years old.

iFixit battery does not hold a charge suspect something is severely draining it.

Have charged the device all day and came home the display looks to still be charging.

Unplugged FireWire charger and the unit shows the no battery icon.

Does anyone know if battery drain can be fixed?

Answer this question I have this problem too

The majority of batteries for these are old stock from years ago at this point. If the battery was made over 2-3 years and never used, so it is likely defective.

Find one that is recently manufactured and try that to see if it helps. You may been sold an old battery.

This battery was bought a few months ago from iFixit europe. Initially it was only lasting about a day and the usage was about an hour on the bus in korning it would then be turned off for most of the day the time I got in the bus to go home it would be on one bar. Suspecting the iPod might be defective in some way.
