Not spinning on spin cycle. Sometimes.

Maytag MVWX655DW is what I have. It will sometimes not spin. It drains the water out of it but the cloths are still soaked cause it wont spin. We can fight with it for about 20 to 30 minutes and it will eventually spin but the problem is still there and continues. When it does this it completely skips the spin cycle and the lid lock light stays on, sometimes flashes. It does not light up done. Any ideas?

Cause 1

Drive Belt

Inspect the drive belt to determine if it is broken or if it is loose on the pulleys. If the drive belt is broken or loose, replace it.

Washer main drive belt. This belt is located under the washing machine and is used to drive the splutch pulley. It goes around the motor & splutch pulleys. Worn or broken drive belt can cause spin or washplate problems.

Cause 2

Clutch

The clutch assembly makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It helps the tub to gradually get up to the proper spin speed. If the clutch is worn out, it may prevent the tub from spinning. The clutch is not repairable—if the clutch is worn out, replace it.

Drive Splutch Kit. This kit has 6 parts; a spring, housing, cam ring, basket drive gear, pulley, and nut. The pulley is driven by the drive belt and the splutch works with the mode shift actuator to operate the washplate and spin the inner basket. A worn splutch can cause spin or washplate problems.

Cause 3

Drive Motor

The drive motor might be defective. However, the drive motor is rarely at fault for this symptom. Before replacing the drive motor, first check all of the more commonly defective washer components. If none of those components are defective, consider replacing the drive motor. To determine if the drive motor is defective, first ensure that the motor is getting power. If the drive motor hums but doesn’t run, is noisy, or does not turn freely, replace it.

Similar thing with mine but the bottom plate of the tub spins while the sides don’t. Ideas before I just start tearing it apart?
