My melex eletric golf cart loses power when the pedal is fully depress

My melex electric golf cart loses power when the pedal is fully depressed. It begins to move if you depress the pedal slowly but just before it reaches full speed it stops completely. Sometimes just letting up on the pedal restores power other times not.
