iPod does not come on at all.

My iPod does not come on. When I plug the charger in, The screen comes on for a second, then it gets really hot.

If you iPod still has the original factory battery, I would recommend replacing the battery first to see if that solves any issue. My first inclination would be to assume a bad logic board, but the battery is certainly a cheaper and possible fix. What is the model number printed on the back of your iPod?

I would second everything Brady Cabe said-- try replacing the battery, but if that doesn't help, it's likely a bad motherboard.

There are two sources for the heat. One, the battery heats up while charging, two if the hard drive is constantly spinning it will heat up. Can you hear the hard drive spin up when you plug it in?
